Hannah Williamson
Chair of Governors
I am the Headteacher at Acomb First School in Northumberland. Prior to beginning my teaching career, I worked as a volunteer teaching English in Sri Lanka for one year, which gave me my first insight into working with children who have English as an additional language. I have worked in teaching for 14 years in the North East and within that time have had the opportunity to be a Leading Maths teacher for Newcastle Local Authority, a Deputy Headteacher in Newcastle and Sunderland, and I continue to be a regular lecturer at Durham University on both the Primary BA and PGCE courses. I have taught across the Primary phase and in Key Stage Three. My career has always been dedicated to working with children in order to make a significant difference, which is why I am strongly committed to working as a governor at Morpeth First School. I have a real passion for teaching and learning and am completely committed to ensuring every child is provided with the best education.
Nicola Darrington
Vice Chair
I am a mum of two boys at the start of their school experience with Morpeth First School. We live locally and I am a part time GP at one of the local surgeries. I enjoy spending time with my family exploring new things and laughing together. I love nature and enjoy spending time outdoors, but if inside I also enjoy craft and baking. I am passionate about ensuring every child is given the very best opportunities to learn and develop and I am therefore very grateful for the opportunity to be on the governing board for Morpeth First School.
I have the pleasure of being a Governor Lead in the areas of Nurture and Eat Well to Learn Well. These areas dovetail together nicely with oversight for how school meal provision and how nutrition/healthy living is embedded within the curriculum; as well as emotional wellbeing provision within the school. I am fortunate also to be a Governor Lead for Character Education, something in which I believe passionately, as it supports the qualities I hope my children and in fact future colleagues/neighbours would possess, for the enrichment of society.

Rachael Blackett
My name is Rachael Blackett. I am a Parent Governor with two children in Morpeth First School, and a younger child who will hopefully follow. I live in Morpeth, and having also grown up here, I am keen to support the school.
I work as a Planning Consultant for a global engineering firm. I believe in being able to use my professional workplace skills for the benefit of the school. I have a wide ranging interest, and I am currently a Governor Lead for both Maths and Nuture, which gives a balanced overview of academic and wellbeing elements within school. I also sit on the school’s Resources Committee.

Bryony Roff
I am an architect working mainly on historic buildings in the North East. I am a parent to two boys, both of whom went to Morpeth First School, one is now at KEVI, the other attends Newminster Middle, so I have had many years of association with Goosehill. I have been a governor since 2016, first as a parent governor, now as a co-opted governor.
Amy Moody
I have been part of the staff at Morpeth First School for 14 years. I am also a mum of two boys and live locally. I love spending my time exploring the outdoors, mainly walking and cycling. I coach a local rugby team and my other interests include science and lots of creativity.
Gemma Jones
I am a Parent Governor with two boys who attend Morpeth First School.
Although originally from Teesside, I have lived in Morpeth for nearly ten years with my husband (who grew up here).
I was previously a solicitor specialising in Employment Law but I left my career in law to become a homemaker when my eldest son was born.
I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring the outdoors, socialising with friends and, when I have the energy, going to bootcamp.
I am passionate about ensuring children have a positive learning environment which enables them to thrive - something I believe Morpeth First School already offers. I look forward to supporting the school and playing a part in influencing and shaping its direction.

Helen Woods
I have been a teacher at Morpeth First for 13 years and have worked across all three key stages in my time here. Prior to moving to Northumberland I worked in various cities across England and Germany and also spent two enjoyable years teaching in Guernsey.
I have always felt that it is a real honour to work as a teacher and to be part of so many young lives.
I have three grown daughters who still keep me very busy. I enjoy cycling, walking and travelling. I love learning new things and over the last few years have taken up fossil hunting, crochet and silversmithing.

Rosie Jones
I am a retired college lecturer with over 35 years experience in Health & Safety, Food Safety, Nutrition and Environmental Awareness.
Four generations of my family have attended Goosehill school and my oldest grandson has just started his Goosehill journey. For nearly nine years I have volunteered at Goosehill listening to the children read which I have thoroughly enjoyed.
Prior to retiring I worked as a Curriculum Manager and Auditor for an awarding body in London so I am bringing my educational experience to the Governor role. In my spare time I attend church, watch football, run and enjoy interior design.
I am looking forward to serving as a Coopted Governor at this special school.

Alister Brown
I am a Coopted Governor, whose now adult children attended the school. I bring four decades experience as Social Worker for children and families having undertaken management and leadership roles including in Child Protection, children with disabilities, family support, child mental health, early years, fostering and adoption.
For the past 10 years I have been one of the directors of a UK wide fostering charity. I am also cofounder of a small family mediation practice. It is a privilege to play a role within the school supporting children to benefit from a positive learning environment, feel safe, included and developing the skills that will give them the foundations to thrive and succeed.

Mark Hodgson
I am delighted to join the Governing Body as a Parent Governor. With two children currently attending the school in Nursery and Year 1, I am deeply invested in the continued success and supportive environment of our school community.
Professionally, I bring over 26 years of experience in the IT industry. This background has provided me with a strong foundation in strategic planning, problem-solving, and understanding the digital landscape—skills I look forward to applying to help our school navigate future challenges and opportunities.
Outside of work, my time is centred around my family. Whether we are exploring local parks, swimming or engaging in activities around the North East, I value the importance of a well-rounded and active childhood.
As a governor, my goal is to ensure that every child at our school has access to the best possible resources and opportunities to thrive. I am eager to listen to the perspectives of fellow parents and work collaboratively to support the school’s leadership team.
